How it started

I’ll keep it short and sweet.

I’ve always wanted to be a writer but could never push myself to actually write something to completion. I’m sure many people can say the same.

At the beginning of the pandemic I told myself I would finish a novel I was working on in 1 year from that day. Well, it’s been a year and my novel is nowhere near complete. There was always something a little more interesting and stimulating to do. Procrastination was the enemy. However, I still needed to do something to feel accomplished, so instead I decided to compromise and start focusing on the strange dreams I’d have almost every night.

Side note, I have always had a super active imagination during the sleeping hours. My whole family actually is very active in the night. One of my brothers would sleep walk all the time, and the other would talk about nonesense while he slept. To top it all off, myself, my dad, and my one brother all experience a type of “night terror” here and there. Mostly we wake up in the night and see something that scares us, such as birds, bugs, or shadows, and we act on our fear, flipping the lights on, throwing the blankets off, run out of the room screaming. More recently I have also been having ones where I am stuck on a thought that makes me act strange. Of course after a minute or so we usually come to our senses and, feeling embarrassed, go right back to sleep. It’s great.

Anyway, I’ve always kept an idea book, and started to log my dreams in there as well, which I hoped would inspire me to actually do something with them, such as create stories, long or short.

After telling my husband about how I wanted to more actively keep track of my dreams, we began to riff off ideas of what to do with them, and we landed on the idea of a blog.

I’d never fully read a blog post (besides a little bit about a cake recipe I was interested in trying once or twice), nor actively searched for one, so I really didn’t think I would want to do anything like a blog. The idea sounded quite blah. Instead, I suggested I create a website that has some short stories based on the dreams I have had and will have, and maybe I’d do a little blogging on the side in case people want to know the “who-what-where-when-why” side of things.

Alas, here we are. I have created a website where I can share the strange side of my mind. I will be sharing a new short story based on a dream I actually had, every week, as well as publish some blog posts here and there. Of course that’s not all.  I have so much to offer to all the people who won’t see my site, so I added a gallery of the photos I have taken over the past few years and will maybe add some more here and there as time goes on.

This website may not be for everyone as the dreams aren’t always PG and I don’t want to be limiting myself creatively either. I hope to also some day expand my website and include other short stories I have written, and maybe start including some more adventurous things, such as ghost hunting? Who knows, the possibilities are endless, but one thing Is for certain, it’ll be strange and it’ll be great. The mind is a crazy place.
