Who am I?

Hey, my name is Christina.

I am a 25 year young female born in Calgary, AB, Canada. I was also raised there, besides spending 1.5 years in Norway somewhere in the middle. Speaking of Norway, my mothers side is Norwegian, with everyone besides my Mom (who is in Calgary), is still living there. My father’s family is German, but my dad was Born in Toronto, Canada. His side of the family is pretty spread out, including him, he now lives in Dubai.

I have two younger brothers, the youngest is 19 and the middle sibling is 22. The youngest is just finishing up his first year of University (all of which has been done online and remotely. What a life eh?). The middle one is graduating from University this month.

I currently reside in Toronto, Canada with my husband, Armin. It’s a place I always swore I’d never live…but you go where the jobs are, right? I’ve lived here for 1.5 years now. Before that I was in Vienna, Austria for a year doing an internship at an architecture firm, while also finishing my final year of schooling. Before that, I was in Horsens, Denmark for the in person portion of my education. I attended VIA University there, if anyone was wondering. I came out of there with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Technology and Construction Management.

The two years I spent living on my own in Europe were really eye opening for me. The way I lived over there was just of such a higher quality, and I believe it really took a great part into shaping who I am today. I would love to someday move back to Europe, but that’s just a dream for now.

Maybe a little about my relationship. I met my Husband at one of my childhood friends wedding in Spain. He was a friend of the Groom’s. He lived in Munich, Germany at the time. We had a magical night under the stars on the ruins of a monastary. The next day, everyone had already gone their separate ways when I slid into his DM’s. We talked for hours and hours on the phone for the next few weeks. And when I say hours, I really mean like 8 hours a day. It was crazy, but I think it really meant we had a good connection. I was back in Calgary trying to find a job, and he was in Germany. We had to see each other again to see if what we felt was real and worth changing our lives for. We managed to book a week trip to New York for a couple weeks later. New York was fantastic. It was a lot of fun and we connected on a deeper level. We decided we needed to figure it out and make it work. We needed to be together. We discussed moving to New York, or me finding a way to Germany. On the last day of our trip I got a phone interview with a Company in Toronto. I did the interview in Central Park, which was kind of cool if I do say so myself. It went well, and they invited me to an in person interview two days later. Somehow that really worked out well because I had a layover in Toronto the day before the interview on my way back from New York, so I just had to change the second part of my flight to a day later and bam, I was going to the interview. I ended up getting the job offer right after the interview, and I would start in 10 days. It was crazy, how that happened and how it worked out.

By some miracle, and I really mean that, Armin managed to get a working holiday Visa to come to Canada a month after I started working in Toronto. The way it all really worked out in our favour was so crazy. I mean we were pretty broke the first few months in Toronto while we got our feet on the ground, but it got easier over time. Unfortunately we barely got downtown and around Toronto before the pandemic hit. I think in a way the pandemic saved us a little. I mean it sucked (and still does) hardcore, but we started saving a bunch of money since we no longer had to take public transit, and didn’t have any work events to attend to, and we were careful about groceries and takeout. We managed to save up pretty quick and move from our crappy shared basement room in Scarborough, to a modern one bedroom apartment in Mimico. If you don’t know Toronto, that’s quite the upgrade. The working from home life suits us well I’d say.

We got engaged before we moved, it was a romantic date day. We spent the day in Burlington, wandering around the city, checking out the water. Then we had a romantic dinner at home in our basement, went to sit on a hill nearby to watch the sunset, and when we came home he laid out some rose petals and got down on one knee. I thought it was a perfect day. We didn’t want to wait to get legally married, I mean, what’s the point, right? So on June 22nd 2020, we managed to make it to the town hall, submitted the paper work, and had a minister bind us in love later that same day. It was sweet. Although we will definitely still be having a wedding ceremony and reception, just not until the pandemic has faded away (aka, in 2022 hopefully).

Anyway, I also have some hobbies. I ski, snowboard, write (duh), read, paint, exercise, bake, and sleep. The usual getup I’d say.

That’s enough about me for one sitting.

Thanks for reading!
