Awake in the Night
Hopefully by now, you've had a little meander on over to my short stories.
I wanted to elaborate a little on the one called “Chocolate”.
Before I get into it, I wanted to say that my A-Z short stories truly are related to the dreams I have while I sleep. Of course I have tweaked them a little bit to make more sense in short story form, but for the most part they are quite similar to what I actually saw behind my closed eyelids.
Now into the happenings behind “Chocolate”.
This wasn’t necessarily a full on dream I had, it was actually one of those night terrors I talked about in the “How it started” blog post.
I don’t recall waking up fully, but I was aware that I was awake. I went to move my hands but they were super heavy. When I took a look at them, they really did look like chocolate. They were heavy, it was dark in the room so I couldn’t see any color, and I couldn’t move my fingers, they were stiff. I started panicking so I had rolled over to face my husband and pushed him awake with my elbow. He groggily asked me what was up and I remember saying to him “My hands have turned into chocolate”. He was confused and wasn’t having it. I don’t quite recall if he said anything back, but I know I was so confused and panicking. I was thinking to myself they would melt in the heat of the bed and then I was afraid someone would eat them and they’d be gone.
It’s really terrifying to be so sure of something being there, like my hands being chocolate. I really did think they would be like that forever, but after a few minutes, I snapped out of it when I could move my fingers again. I was left feeling so dumb that I had woken my husband up to exclaim my worry over my chocolate hands. He remembers it to this day and likes to bring it up often for a good laugh.
So the short story isn’t based on a dream exactly, but I took the idea and made it into a fictional story.
Why does this sort of dreaming while awake happen I wonder? How does it happen? The imagination and visuals of my dreaming mind come with me into the realm of reality. It’s bizarre, but makes for good fun after the fact.
If you experience the same happenings, I would love to hear your stories. You can find my email in the footer below.
This experience was straight out of the strange side of the mind.
Thanks for reading!
