What I’m Watching
Yep, I am now one of those people. I watched Squidgame.
After the non-stop memes, and talk about it, I caved in and watched it.
I knew it’d be a good show, and it was. There was such a great thought out plot. Every thing that happened was well done. It was actually pretty hard to predict most of the time. Which is nice in a show like this one. However, there were some moments near the end that were predictable based on how the show was coming to an end. Regardless, it kept you wondering, and many nights this past week I kept thinking about the different ways the show could go.
Despite the show not being a horror, it was thrilling and there were a couple moments I had to look away, afraid of what would happen. If you don’t mind a little gore, and some of your childhood games being reimagined into a death trap, then I recommend you give this a watch if you haven’t already.
A bonus to watching it before the end of October – you’ll understand 90% of the Halloween costumes people will be wearing.
Another show I just binged was Surrealestate.
There is only one season on Crave, so if you’re looking for a long-term relationship with a show, this won’t be for you.
It was a decent show. Not super amazing quality, but not bad either. I’m sure you get the jist of what it’s about from the name. It’s about a real-estate agency that specializes in “haunted” homes. Basically they will cleanse the home and then sell it without a discount (because most haunted homes go for cheap since they come with unwanted extras).
I mean it’s a great concept, but I do think they could have executed it a little better. If it’s renewed for another season, it has great potential. The show definitely picked up a bit in quality near the end, so I think if given the chance, it could get better. Hopefully anyway.
It has all the asking’s of a good show - suspense, love, heartbreak, mystery, etc. I think if it is missing something, it could be the quality of the hauntings. It’s really easy to cross the line between realistic and ridiculous. I think their version of a haunted house is over the line. If they scaled it back a bit and made it feel like something that really could happen, then the show would be ten times better. It would feel less like a scary soap and more like a horror.
Either way, if you’re looking for something paranormal, but not scary, then I recommend this show. It’s cheesy and often dumb, but still sweet and is different from the usual.
What’s next?
I will be diving into the shows Midnight Mass, YOU Season 3, and What Happened, Brittany Murphy? All three great shows to watch during spooky season:
Midnight mass is the third limited series by the creators of The Haunting of Hill House – which will forever be the most amazing horror show I have ever seen in my life. It has the same cast, all of whom are amazing, and it again dabbles in the paranormal. I believe this will be another great show that is cinematically superb, has the right amount of eerie, and will have a great twist with an unexpected ending that brings it together and makes the show amazing.
As for YOU…well I am sure you have heard of the show, because it is quite popular. It took me a long time to begin the show. I don’t think I actually started it until season 2 just finished. I mean it was great for me, because I could watch two seasons back to back, and even then it took me a couple episodes before I was sold on it. I think it’s because it became less cringe and went into the more suspenseful. They really know how to keep you on your toes. I look forward to the third season. I think it will have a lot of unexpected scenarios that end in ways you wouldn’t think possible.
Lastly, What Happened, Brittany Murphy?. It’s a documentary about the mysteries surrounding the death of Brittany Murphy. I am a believer that True Crime also fits under the category of spooky season. Although her death wasn’t a murder, it was suspicious. Anything suspicious is scary. Especially when it’s a celebrity. I don’t actually know much about how Brittany Murphy died, and all the shit she was going through prior to her death. I think because I don’t know much about her, the show will be much more interesting to watch.
Anyways, I’d be interested in knowing more about what you like the watch.
Do you have any shows that scream October?
Even when it isn’t Ghostober, I am always looking for more to watch.
Until next time, stay strange.
